A SAPPHIRE to Remember
The SAPPHIRE conference has always been the ultimate gut check; a true “look in the mirror” test to evaluate how your company has grown in the previous year. This yardstick manifests itself in a number of ways. How many presentations did your company have? How many client meetings did your sales team schedule? How much attention were you given by SAP leadership?
However, my true indicator of “success” has always been based on a much simpler metric: “Do you know who we are and what we do?” Four years ago – at SAPPHIRE – I would have put an affirmative response to that question at 20%. Two years ago, it was around 40%.
This year was different… in many ways.
This year, a majority of the attendees that we spoke with had either heard of our brand or were aware of a project that we had worked on. Not only that, but two of our presentations ranked in the top 5% in registrations and attendance, we co-hosted one of the largest events of the conference, and we had more customers presenting on our behalf than ever before.

With multiple presentations alongside customers, accepting TWO awards (Innovation Award for SF 49er’s project and Pinnacle Finalist for S/4HANA Cloud), and tons of quality meetings, the marathon known as SAPPHIRE was a whirlwind and a success.”

So, my question leaving the “best SAPPHIRE yet” was, "What had changed so dramatically in just four years? How did we exponentially grow our brand recognition, achieve two major awards, and sell out multiple presentations?" The answer – just like the question, “Who are you?” – is simple as well: Relationships.
Our relationship with our partners at Syntax (formally Freudenberg IT) allowed us to help bring together the event celebration Howl at the Moon that hosted over 1500 clients, colleagues and SAP employees. Howl at the Moon is annually considered “The Party” for SAPPHIRE attendees to unwind, mingle and network. This year was an exceptional example of that:
Our relationship with valued clients like The San Francisco 49ers not only helped us to make Levi’s Stadium the first sports arena in North America with Real-time Venue Analytics, but it also led to co-presentations across the country, a webinar that brought in over 700 registrants and The SAP Innovation Award for Digital Trailblazer.
